Following are The Beechwood School Policies.
1. Tuition
(a) The school year tuition is payable in 10 equal installments. Your first installment is due during the summer as noted on your bill. The remaining installments are payable the 10th of each month, September through May. There are no refunds or reductions in tuition for absences, school year vacations or early withdrawal.
(b) The summer session is payable as noted on the tuition statement. All Summer vacations and holidays are deducted from the billing if the office is notified by the specified date.
(c) If tuition is not paid within 10 days of the due date, a $40 late fee will be added to your account.
2. Schedule Changes
The Beechwood School must be notified in writing (4) four weeks in advance of any time &/or day changes to your schedule. The office will let you know if we can accommodate your needs earlier, and a fee will be impossed.
The Beechwood School must be notified in writing (6) six weeks in advance of withdrawal or your tuition balance and/or deposit will be forfeited.
3. Arrivals
Enter the school only through the main door on the upper level. Please sign your child in with your PIN at the TimeClock monitor. Morning classes begin at 9:00am. Please have your child to school on time. Call by 8:00am if your child will be absent or late, but will be here for lunch.
4. Departures
Children must be signed out with your PIN at the TimeClock monitor by the pick-up person. Any person other than a parent must be listed on the family's Long Term Departure slip and/or on a note on the Departure Board. Long Term Teparture slips are available for names of friends and family who have permission to pick up your child. If a name is on the slip, the child will be released. Identification of pick-up person is necessary if unknown to office staff or teachers. For occasional pick-ups or play dates, a daily slip for the departure board may be completed as needed.
5. Toilet Trained
Children MUST be toilet trained and wearing underpants to attend The Beechwood School. Full day students must be trained through rest time. No pull-ups are permitted at The Beechwood School.
6. Naps & Rest
Every full day child is required to take a rest (quiet time) after lunch for one hour. Each child will be provided with a cot. We ask your cooperation by sending a small crib-sized blanket and camp-sized pillow — with cover — in a labeled and closeable backpack or bag. Please DO NOT send in standard-sized pillows, blankets or sleeping bags. They are hard to keep neat and to store sanitary at school.
It is state law that ALL blankets, pillowcases, and cots be washed each week. This is to prevent the possible spread of head lice &/or viruses. Blankets and pillows will be sent home with your child at the end of the week to be washed.
7. Extended Hours
Space allowing: 9:00-11:30 students may stay for lunch &/or the afternoon, and 9:00-1:00 students may stay for the afternoon. An hourly fee is due upon pick-up.
Half day students, for an additional fee, are also welcome to arrive early, i. e. : 7:45am, 8:00am or 8:30am.
8. Medication
All prescription and over the counter medication MUST be clearly marked with your child’s name and the dosage. A white "administration of medicine form" MUST be filled out and accompany the medication. Medication will ONLY be given at 12:00 and 4:00pm.
9. Illness / Communicable Disease
If a child exhibits any of the following symptoms, he/she are asked not to attend school. If such symptoms occur at the center, the child will be isolated from the group and will be required to be picked up. Arrangements are to be made within 30-45 minutes of notification.
Symptoms include, but are not limited to: diarrhea, episodes of vomiting, elevated oral temperature of 101.4 F within the last 24 hours, sore throat or severe coughing, heavy nasal discharge, severe pain or discomfort, yellow eyes or jaundice skin, red eyes with discharge, infected untreated skin patches, difficult or rapid breathing, skin lesions that are weeping or bleeding,skin rashes lasting longer than 24 hours, swollen joints, visibly enlarged lymph nodes, stiff neck, blood in urine.
Once the child is symtom-free, or has a doctor's note stating that he or she no longer poses a serious health risk to others, he or she may return to school.
In the case of a fever, the child MUST be fever-free without fever medication for 24 hours before returning to school.
If the child contracts any of the following diseases, please report it to the office immediately. The child MAY NOT return to school without a doctor's note stating that the child presents no harm to himself or others: German Measles, Hemophilus Influenza, Meningococcus, Mumps, Tuberculosis, Whooping Cough, Giardia Lamblia, Hepatitis A, Salmonelia, Shigella.
These diseases MUST BE reported to our local health department and to the Bureau of Licensing. If your child is exposed to any reportable disease at school, you will be notified in writing.
10. NIT Policy
In case of lice, the school MUST be notified and proper treatement given. Children MAY NOT return to class until they are checked by the office and declared NIT free. A note will be sent home to any other children affected.
11. Conjunctivitis or Pinkeye
This is a contagious condition. Admittance to school will ONLY be permitted with 24 hours on prescription drops, a doctor's note and clear eyes.
12. Neighborhood Courtesy
Please respect our neighbors. Do not exceed 25 mph on Beechwood Avenue — it is a residential street. Please do not block neighbors' driveways and beware of neighbors backing out of their driveways.
13. Clothing
Please LABEL ALL CLOTHING (hats, coats, gloves, etc.) plainly with your child's name. We will not be responsible for lost articles. Please send a complete EXTRA set of LABELED clothes to school in case of an accident throughout the school year. Please dress your child in play clothes. We have some messy activities and will be outside daily. Children should wear shoes or buckeled sandals, not flip flops or clogs.
14. Birthdays
We celebrate birthdays during the snack period. You are welcome to send a NUT FREE birthday snack for the class. i.e.: cupcakes, fruit, munchkins, pretzels, etc… Your child's teacher will add a birthday hat and songs.
15. Toys
Other then toys that are needed in the opening days of school to help ease your child's transition from home (preferably stuffed animals) we ask that you leave your child's toys at home or in the car.
Your child's teacher will inform you of show and share days.
16. Nutrition Program
Beechwood will provide all children with a morning snack.
Children who remain at The Beechwood School until at least 1:00pm, bring a packed lunch. Lunch is generally eaten between 11:30 and 12:15. No peanut butter or nuts are permitted.
An afternoon snack is provided, and is usually served about 2:30pm.
17. Parking Lot Safety
Children on the playground should be met at the gate by an adult.
Please hold your child's hand when crossing the lot.
Car engines should be turned off .
Please do not back out of The Beechwood School's driveway.
18. Discipline Policy
Proper disciple procedures help children to grow in respect for themselves and for the welfare of all. Our staff encourages good discipline by structuring the environment for the world of preschool and kindergarten children. Through small group sizes, adequate staffing, daily routines, and varied activities, the children are kept busy and productive. Many discipline problems are alleviated through this environment.
Each child is taught the rules of the classroom and school. The staff review and discuss proper procedures by role modeling and positive reinforcement. If a child forgets a rule, he or she is reminded of the rule and the reason for it. At times, a child may need to take some time to think about his/her actions.
If a child seems to be continually having difficulty following certain rules, a conference will be set up between the teacher and the parents. By working together, staff and parents can establish appropriate goals, rewards, and punishments.
Frequent bathroom accidents or repeated acts of violence (biting, hitting, kicking, etc.) toward another child or teacher is subject to review and could be cause for dismissal, as noted in our state mandated expulsion policy. We strive to help your children with this socialization process.
